Why Simplicity Matters in Skincare

Modern skincare often overcomplicates something that can be beautifully simple.

Walking through a health or beauty store can feel overwhelming. Every shelf is filled with buzzwords, “super ingredients,” and packaging covered in ingredient lists most people can’t pronounce, let alone fully understand.

Whenever I find myself overwhelmed by the options and expectations of today, I often think:
“It wasn’t always like this.”

What happened that made us feel the need to cover our skin in synthetic formulas and ingredients that would never naturally exist in the world around us?

Over time, I began noticing that some of the healthiest and most naturally radiant people I know tend to live in a very simple and intentional way. Their routines are grounded in consistency rather than excess. Simple nutrition. Time outdoors. Movement. Rest. Clean personal care.

That realization changed the way I approached skincare.

Your skin is the largest organ in the human body. It faces constant exposure to sun, wind, cold, salt water, dry air, and pollution. I believe it deserves the same thoughtful care we give the rest of our health.

That philosophy is what led me to develop the Wave + Summit tallow balm formula.

One of the things I appreciate most about the balm is its simplicity. I can count the ingredients on one hand, and every one of them has a clear purpose and a recognizable origin.

Grass-fed tallow is the foundation of the formula because of how closely it resembles the skin’s natural oils. It has been valued for generations as a deeply nourishing moisturizer and naturally contains vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Jojoba oil and sweet almond oil help support the skin’s moisture barrier while remaining lightweight and easy to absorb. Organic beeswax helps protect and soften dry skin while remaining biodegradable and sustainably sourced. Vitamin E provides antioxidant support and also acts as a natural preservative within the formula.

For nearly two years now, Wave + Summit tallow balm has been my only face and body moisturizer. My skin has never felt healthier or more balanced in its natural state, and the simplicity of using one reliable product instead of several has been a welcome relief for both my mind and my wallet.

Just as importantly, I appreciate knowing that when I wash my hands or recycle an empty tin, the remnants of that product are not contributing unnecessary synthetic pollution into the natural environments I care about most.
